Deco's Principal Investigator, Andrea C. Pizza, meets the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for architectural history, history, historical archaeology, and precontact archaeology. Her experience and qualifications in all of these fields allows her to recognize and address the range of cultural resources affected by a project while providing consolidated, timely, and cost-efficient services.
Andrea holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from The University of Arizona. For over 25 years, she has directed, coordinated, and participated in numerous cultural resources investigations, including survey, evaluation, and mitigation projects in rural and urban settings. She has extensive experience in archival research, the development of historic contexts, evaluations of National Register eligibility, and the preparation of National Register documentation. Her consulting experience includes energy infrastructure, environmental remediation, historic sites, mining, park improvement, recreational trail, residential and urban development, scenic byway, telecommunication tower, thematic study, transportation, and utilities projects.
Andrea is pre-qualified for Architectural/History Studies, Historic Archaeological Work, and Archaeological Work by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and she is a Registered Professional Archaeologist. Her essay, “Men-Women and Children: Gender and the Structuring of Historical Archaeology” appears in the International Handbook of Historical Archaeology.
